Invisalign in Geelong
A Clearer Path to a Healthier, Straighter Smile
Invisalign in Melbourne / Clear Teeth Straightening
Having perfectly straight teeth is a desire most of us share. However, apart from the aesthetic benefit of a straight smile, having straight teeth gives you a significant advantage in maintaining a healthy mouth. They make it easier to clean effectively, thus reducing the build-up of plaque, and supporting the health of the surrounding bone and gum.
If you've been searching for Invisalign treatment in Geelong, this page will walk you through what to expect, right from your first consultation right through to your finished smile.
What to Expect at Your Clear Aligner Consultation
A thorough examination, including x-rays, photos and 3D scans, is carried out by your dentist so an accurate record can be taken for diagnosing and planning treatment for your teeth and jaw.
We're pleased to offer gap-free orthodontic consultation appointments for eligible health fund members.
You'll be given information on your treatment options, how soon treatment could begin, the expected duration of your clear aligner treatment, and an approximate cost.
How Invisalign Treatment Works
Once we've confirmed clear aligners are the right option for you, treatment generally follows three stages:
1. Digital scan and custom plan
We take a detailed 3D scan of your teeth, which we use to map out a custom treatment plan and the stages your smile will move through.
2. Wearing and changing your aligners.
You'll be given a series of clear aligners, generally changing to the next set every one to two weeks as advised. We'll also schedule regular review appointments to check your progress and make sure treatment is tracking as planned.
3. Retaining your new smile.
Once your teeth have reached their final position, you'll be fitted with a retainer to help maintain their position. You will need to wear these retainers as directed; else your teeth could shift back out of alignment.
What You'll Need to Remember During Clear Aligner Treatment
Here are some recommended guidelines to follow while undergoing clear aligner therapy:
1. Maintain good oral hygiene
It's important that while completing your orthodontic treatment, you maintain a high standard of oral hygiene. This means twice-daily toothbrushing, daily flossing, and use of mouthwash and fluoridated toothpaste.
Wearing aligners can make it harder to clean your teeth and gives bacteria and food an extra surface to collect on, so it's important to keep up regular home care and speak to your dentist if you're ever unsure how to clean your teeth and aligners properly.
2. Get regular dental checks
Visiting your dentist every six months for a routine check, clean and fluoride treatment helps maintain healthy teeth and gums. It also ensures any teeth at risk of decay are monitored regularly, with x-rays taken as needed.
3. Be mindful about your diet
While completing orthodontic treatment, it's important to address any less-than-ideal dietary habits. Avoid sticky foods such as toffee and hard lollies, and limit sugary, acidic drinks such as soft drink.
A poor diet increases your risk of tooth decay, more so during orthodontic treatment, since sugar and acid can sit against your teeth for longer underneath your aligners, creating ideal conditions for decay.
Your dentist will give you further guidance on diet and oral hygiene suited to your treatment.
4. Follow directions given by your dental practitioner
While completing treatment with clear aligner therapy, such as Invisalign, it's important your aligners are worn for a minimum of 22 hours a day to achieve effective tooth movement and keep treatment on schedule.
Aligners shouldn't be worn during meals, or while drinking anything other than water.
After finishing treatment, you'll be given a retainer to help prevent your teeth from moving back out of alignment. If retainers aren't worn as advised, teeth can shift out of position again.

Common Questions
Is Invisalign painful?
Most patients report feeling mild pressure for a day or two after switching to a new aligner. This is normal, as your teeth gradually start to move. However, this usually settles quickly, and can be managed with prescribed pain relief medication.
How long does Invisalign treatment take?
Caring for ceramic veneers is simple and mirrors the routine you’d follow for your natural teeth. Regular brushing, flossing, and professional dental check-ups will keep your veneers in excellent condition. Avoid habits that could harm your veneers, like chewing on ice or opening packages with your teeth, so they stay in pristine condition for years to come.
Can I eat and drink normally with Invisalign?
You will need to remove your aligners before eating or drinking anything other than water, then brush your teeth before putting them back in. This helps protect both your aligners and your teeth.
Is Invisalign as effective as traditional braces?
Clear aligners can address a wide range of alignment concerns, though not every case is suited to this approach. We'll assess your teeth and bite properly before recommending whether Invisalign or another option is right for you.
Do you offer Invisalign for patients travelling from Melbourne?
Yes, we welcome Invisalign patients from all over Melbourne. We're happy to discuss appointment scheduling that works for your travel.
What happens after my Invisalign treatment finishes?
You'll be fitted with a retainer to help hold your teeth in their new position. Wearing it as directed is important, since teeth can shift back out of alignment without one.
